Karen Flories Bio
Karen Flories is the founder of SeraphimED and a full-time professional learning consultant, dedicated to working with teachers and leaders nationwide. She specializes in applying high impact educational research to inform decisions that best enhance student learning. Karen facilitates professional learning in areas such as teacher clarity, Professional Learning Communities (PLCs), school improvement, instructional coaching, and leadership development, working hands-on with educators to drive learning at surface, deep, and transfer levels. Schools and districts have redefined processes and structures based off work Karen has done with them.
Recently, Karen and her colleagues Fisher and Frey developed the PLC+ framework, designed to foster sustained change in teacher practice by building capacity within teacher-led teams. In collaboration with John Hattie, she co-authored the "Becoming an Assessment Capable Visible Learner" series, aimed at guiding educators in developing students who can drive their own learning.
Before her consultancy role, Karen served as Executive Director of Educational Services and Director of Literacy and Social Studies at VVSD, with extensive experience in high school administration and classroom teaching. Her leadership in Visible Learning focused on teacher clarity, classroom assessment, and feedback. Known for her engaging presentation style, Karen ensures that participants can immediately apply the practices they learn in their schools and classrooms
